The 4 Important Things You Must Know Before Becoming a Medical Coding Specialist

A medical coding specialist is someone who reviews medical records and then implements the correct diagnostic code according to Company standards. It is fairly exacting work but it is definitely work that you might find enjoyable if you are a detail oriented person.

Take some time and make sure that you consider some of the ins and outs of the position before you apply or before you consider getting into the training that is necessary. Below I give you the 4 important things you must know before becoming a medical coding specialist.

1. You Must Be Detail Oriented
When you are interested in becoming a medical coder (as they are called sometimes), remember that your job does require you to code using an ICD-9-CM codebook. You cannot use an encoder.

You are going to need to be able to work to tight deadlines. In many situations, you will need to provide a 48 hour turnaround on the jobs that you are given. Similarly, you are going to need to pay intense attention to how well you are doing; if you are going to be a medical coder, you will discover that you need to maintain 95% degree of accuracy on your assignments.

2. You Must Be Self Motivated
More and more medical coding specialists are working from home. While this can give you a great deal of advantage when it comes to doing the work and working the hours that you want, you soon realize that it can be a vast change from having a job where someone else is going to be monitoring your time usage.

To work at home effectively, you are going to need a current Windows operating system, high speed Internet access, MS Internet Explorer that is version 6.0.2 or later, and Adobe 6.0 or later. You will discover that while these basic things are very easy to get, you need to bring them together and make them work for you with some effort.

3. The Educational Requirements
When you are thinking about becoming a medical coding specialist, remember that there is a certain amount of certification that is required. You will need to posses an Accredited Record Technician's certification or a Certified Coding Specialist designation, which is issued by the American Health Information Management Association. If you do not possess this certification, you may substitute work in medical record coding or experience that would give you these skills and knowledge.

4. You Must Have Good Customer Service Skills
In some positions, especially if you work away from home, you will find that you need to think about what you can do to really click well with the clients that you will be serving. There are many instances where you will need to work with the client to get the right result, and this does rely on you having good interpersonal skills.

Depression in Teens - Hormones at Work

The issue here is that while some teens are able to cope with these natural functions of growing up, some others might not be able to cope so well and they show their inability to cope with things like depression. Now when one person is going through puberty, there are hormonal changes that happen in the body and the darn thing is that hormones have so much to do with the emotional subsystems in the body. When you are growing up or experiencing puberty, there is a surge in the amount of male or female hormones that are circulating around the body and this is because your body is trying to activate the biological triggers within the body to start some growth spurt and allow areas within the body to grow and develop that mark you as female or male.

Now when you are a male, the level of testosterone in your body increases and this is to actually trigger processes like protein synthesis and development of male specific organs and other bodily functions. Your Adams apple will protrude, the voice box will deepen, protein synthesis will ensure that your muscularity grows and your mass and height will also be affected. For the female, the hormone that we are talking about here is estrogen and it does the same functions as testosterone, but only affects different areas of the female body.

Now, with any biological processes and the millions of possible genetic combination out there, there are bound to be side effects and levels of side effects within individuals who are experiencing puberty. One of them is that they are unable to cope with their major physical changes and they might experience things like acne, which might cause them to be depressed about their appearance. Also, hormones at such a level might also incur emotions to go up and down like tidal waves, and they might be out of control of these teenagers to handle.

Because of these emotions and feelings of being segmented from other normal people, they might slip into depression that is common to teenagers. Do not be alarmed if you see your teenager showing the signs of depression, for even an extended period. Their body is trying to get used to the high level of hormones and the massive changes they are experiencing. Be concerned if they become a complete introvert and there is a drastic character change within themselves. Then the problem might be more than just the normal hormonal problem. If you are concerned, approach a child psychologist, who might be able to help you to evaluate your teenager and make the recommendations.

How Not to Make These 3 Small Business Website Mistakes
How To Publish An Ezine For Your Business
For those who aren't familiar with ezines, an ezine is an online newsletter. It may be published in either HTML or text, depending on how you want to send it to your subscribers.
The advantage of creating and publishing an ezine for your business is that it allows you to build a relationship with your site visitors as well as capture their email addresses to build a list. You may also use your ezine to help you promote your own products or services or affiliate programs.
To be effective, you want to include a wide variety of content. First, include articles, news, and product reviews related to your industry. Show your readers how you save them time by presenting them with information they might not otherwise find online. Educate your readers and give them information that they will find valuable.
Include relevant ads for products that complement what you offer. Show your readers a wide variety of solutions to their problems.
To get started with your ezine, the first thing you need to do is find an autoresponder system to send out your ezine. An autoresponder is a system that will allow you to automate the process of sending out messages to your list as well as automating the process of subscribing and unsubscribing.
Autoresponders also make you look more professional. Not only are you saving time here, you're saving money. Your time as a small business owner is way too valuable to waste on manually adding and deleting subscribers from your list. Don't waste your time here especially when there are solutions that will handle this for you, and they're very reasonably priced.
Once you have selected your autoresponder system, write several messages to send to your future subscribers. Include articles, product reviews, and promotional messages. Mix these up and include about a 50/50 mix here. Space these messages out over several weeks. Although some will tell you to email your subscribers every day, many will unsubscribe because they get tired of being bombarded with messages. Put yourself in your subscribers' shoes. How often would you want to hear from you? Once or twice a week is plenty.
Add the subscription code to all of the pages of your website. If you don't have a website, then you may want to create a simple subscription page for your site. There is plenty of free software available to do this so you don't need to know HTML.
Send out your ezine at least once a month, although weekly will give you a better response. Advertise your ezine in directories to help you get readers. Establish a relationship with your readers for long term business success.
